Turning Point Academy (TPA) is a London-based registered charity which serves women who have converted to Islam and those who are interested in Islam. It is a non-profit organisation, established in 2004 in response to the lack of local support for women, and it has now grown to provide a range of specific services that aim to meet educational, social and transitional needs. No fees are charged for any of the services provided and our professional team volunteer their time and skills to this much needed cause. TPA relies solely on the financial support of generous donors.
TPA recognises the need for a personalised approach to teaching and support. Our trained educators have knowledge of the wider social context in order to provide on-going, gentle guidance, and they also have a deep understanding of the sensitivities surrounding women who have embraced Islam.
Together with providing constructive educational programmes, TPA focuses on empowering women, lifting those in isolation, and providing opportunities for members to be part of the Muslim community. The Academy offers a relaxed and flexible environment to learn and socialise, where students are able to develop a sense of belonging without having to compromise their identity.TPA encourages participation from non-Muslim family, friends and colleagues to ease the transitional process. Such interactions help to reverse the negative perceptions of Muslim women that may be embedded in people’s minds. These opportunities also strive to dispel myths and assist with combating Islamophobia. TPA also facilitates community cohesion by encouraging its members to integrate in the wider UK context through involvement with non-faith based charitable causes.
TPA maintains a neutral and all-encompassing stance, uniting all under the banner of the declaration of faith as practised by the beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). We believe that his guidance is an example for all of mankind to follow and we also learn lessons from the lives of his rightly-guided successors. We raise awareness amongst our students to avoid involvement in any established or emerging groups which deviate from the Qur’an and Sunnah. Students are free to consult imams and scholars of their choice. We encourage all new Muslim sisters who are able to reach us to join the Turning Point community, which by the grace of Allah is recognised in the UK as an excellent model of a support organisation.
We ask Allah (SWT) to accept our good deeds, forgive us for our shortcomings and keep us guided on the straight path, the path that leads to paradise. Ameen.
